We are looking for a junior sponsor associate to support our team in servicing our debt and equity sponsor clients, both in respect of continuing obligations and corporate actions.

We think that this person will be a young newly-qualified attorney who is not convinced of practising law, but we are open to other professionally qualified candidates.

The right candidate will need to be bright, keen and hungry to learn. They should have good written and verbal communication skills and an enquiring mind. No JSE or regulatory experience is required and we envisage that there will be a steep learning curve through practical application, under the guidance of a very experienced team and with a lot of hand-holding initially. Our gut feel is that this role tends to be better suited to a female candidate, but we are open minded.

The job initially entails: • Drafting announcements in relation to our clients' compliance with continuing obligations under the Listings Requirements • Ensuring compliance with disclosure requirements through the completion of JSE checklists, including the annual financial statements • Maintaining corporate diaries in relation to our clients' JSE obligations and pro-actively planning and managing deliverables • Uploading and releasing announcements and other documentation on the JSE's system • Getting involved in corporate actions such as acquisitions, disposals, listings, delistings, share issues, share repurchases, etc. • Becoming familiar with the Listings Requirements through practical application on a day-to-day basis • Attending the weekly sponsor team meetings • Assisting with pulling together pitch documents

The growth path we envisage: • Manage a portfolio of clients • Become competent in the provision of advice around the regulatory and legal aspects of M&A • Become a JSE-approved sponsor executive (which entails writing an exam in the third or fourth year of working in the field)

The person will be exposed to a wide variety of debt and equity transactions and will get a very good taste of the listed space. They will need a client service mentality and a strong work ethic.
